An old Chinese story tells of a man who much liked dragons. He talked about dragons, purchased many kinds of replicas of dragons, and painted dragons. A dragon thought, "If a real dragon like I am would visit him, he would be delighted." One day the dragon slipped into his room. The man was astonished! He did not know what to do. "Whaaah!!" He could not run away. He could not stand up.

"Only when each one of us feels the truth, will it work," observed Shunryu Suzuki. I speak of intimacy often. The truth, the Way, our practice works only through our giving ourselves to it, even as it gives itself to us. The feeling of this self-donation is positive, a losing of a lesser experience of life for a greater, richer, more fulfilling experience of life. In this giving, our experience becomes practical, and the joining of faith and life brings a sense of inner and outer harmony. Simply put, we know what to do even when we do not know what to do.
